Trans PRK (No Touch Laser)

Trans PRK can be applied to patients who have near and distance vision problems. The procedure starts with applying numbing (anaesthetic) eye drops and the process lasts from 50 seconds to 1 minute. There is no contact with the eyes by surgical instruments during the operation. In addition, the laser eye surgery can be applied to people who had cataract surgery or whose retina is prone to tears. (*upon eye tests being appropriate. ) Finally, laser eye surgery is also possible for patients with thin or steep corneas. (Ps: Trans PRK procedure is performed without touching the eye, it does not have the characteristics of  an eye surgery, so, we do not call this process a ‘surgery’)

Which Patients Can Be Applied to the Trans PRK Method?

It can be applied to myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism patients whose eye structure is suitable. So, patients with distance and near vision problems may be candidates for this treatment. It is a method that can be applied to people who have had cataract surgery before, and to patients with retinal tears and prone to tears, provided that their eye structures are suitable. Finally, Trans PRK treatment can be applied especially in cases with thin corneas and whose corneal surface is steeper than normal.

How is Eye Laser Surgery Application Performed?

The Trans PRK treatment process starts with anesthetic drops in the eye and the patient does not feel any pain during the application. During the treatment, there is no device contact with the eye, and the eye is treated directly with the rays emanating from the laser device. All the patient has to do is look at the green light coming out of the laser device. In a short time like 50 seconds, the procedure is completed in the same session for both eyes.

What is the Healing Process After Trans PRK Treatment?

After the treatment, the eyes do not need to be closed, the patient can go home by keeping both eyes open. In this process, the patient is given UV protective glasses to protect the patient’s eyes. After the patient goes home, complaints such as stinging, redness, discomfort from the light and blurry vision of small prints on the television develop for 36 hours. It is aimed to make this process more comfortable with the drugs to be prescribed to the patient. After the patient spends the first three days at home, he comes for the control on the 4th day. On the 4th day after the treatment, the patient starts working on the computer and at the end of the 7th day, driving an automobile. As the healing process progresses, there will be an increase in the patient’s healthy vision experience. This process can take approximately one month. There is no increase in the patient’s eye number after Trans PRK application. In other words, situations such as the use of contact lenses and glasses are not in question.

What are The Points to be Considered After The Application?

Eyes should not be come into contact with water for about 1 week. After the procedure, attention should be paid to the use of prescribed eye drops for the period specified by your doctor. Care should be taken to protect the eyes from UV light as much as possible, and care should be taken to use sunglasses when the daylight is sharp. The vehicle should not be driven immediately after the operation. In order for the healing process to progress healthily, rest for a certain period of time and tiring work should be avoided.

How is an Application Made in Night Vision Problems?

In the Wavefront application, light scattering and aberrations in the eye are measured and laser therapy is adjusted accordingly. When these deviations are corrected with the wavefront technique, the treatment suitable for the person’s own eye structure is realized and the night vision problem is eliminated.

The advantages of the Trans PRK are as follows:

  • During the eye laser surgery, there is no sharp tool or device touching the eye.
  • The laser vision correction for both eyes is be completed in a single session.
  • After the laser vision correction, your eyes will not be covered and you will be discharged with protective glasses.
  • It can also be applied to patients with thin corneal structure.
  • The laser vision correction is used to treat patients with myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.
  • There is no removal of any corneal layers.
  • The possibility of dry eye syndrome is minimal at the end of the procedure, the reason is that there is no contact with eyes.
  • According to corneal topography test results, laser vision correction can also be applied for patients with high refractive errors.
